The Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) is a statutory authority in unique partnership with the Australian Government and rural industries to invest in R&D. This partnership includes:

• Australian Government matching of industry contributions to rural R&D dollar-for-dollar up to 0.5 per cent of gross value of production
• Industry involvement from planning to adoption of R&D

In 2010–11 RIRDC’s research effort consisted of three Portfolios—New and Emerging Industries, Established Rural Industries and National Rural Issues. These Portfolios invested in research and development in 20 programs areas as well as being actively involved in the Primary Industry Standing Committee.

RIRDC consulted with its expert R&D advisory committees to set program research priorities for 2010–11, which are based on industry five-year R&D plans. These plans are available on our website.

Australian Land Management Group is a not-for-profit organisation established by landholders to improve environmental and related economic and social outcomes in ways that improve their wellbeing and that of their communities and landscapes. With the ALM Group’s Certified Land Management system, landholders and land managers can certify all their land management activities and show the world they are improving environmental outcomes.

The Pilbara Development Commission (PDC) is one of nine Regional Development Commissions established under the State Government’s Regional Development Commissions Act (1993) (the Act). It is a Statutory Authority managed by a Board whose composition, which is determined under the Act comprises three local government representatives, three community representatives, three Ministerial appointments and the Chief Executive Officer by virtue of the office.

The Commission and its Board are responsible to the Minister for Regional Development. The Commission receives an annual appropriation from the State Government to carry out approved activities.

The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) represents the planning profession and the public interest in planning. PIA is a nationally registered not-for-profit Organisation, governed by a Board. State, territory and international activity is overseen by Division Committees.

PIA exists to –

• Promote professional interests
• Set standards of professional competency
• Provide professional development
• Disseminate planning ideas
• Promote an exchange of views
• Advocate for planners and planning

Members are all required to meet PIA Professional Development requirements and observe the requirements of its Code of Professional Conduct.

The Centre for Aboriginal Independence and Enterprise was formed to foster cultural, social and community expression and assists to realise enhanced self-esteem and economic independence for Aboriginal people. The Centre strives to enhance existing alliances between the Aboriginal community and the non-Aboriginal community in a show of collective unity, trust and openness about where we find ourselves and how we may address key issues for the future which will benefit all of us.

The Centre endeavours to generate new directions for the Aboriginal community to move beyond reliance on government agencies and other bureaucracies.
